Last updated 24 October 2026

Random Existence is a game about living one life somewhere in the world. To play the demo we ask for your email address, and we use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site. This page explains what we collect, why, where it goes and what you can do about it.

In short: we collect the email address you give us (and a first name if you choose to add one), use it to tell you about the game, and never sell it. The lives you play stay in your own browser. We use Google Analytics to count visits, and in the UK, the EU, the EEA and Switzerland only if you say yes. There is no advertising.

Who we are

Random Existence is made by Public Image Design LLC. For anything about your information, email [email protected].

What we collect when you sign up

InformationWhy
Email addressTo let you into the demo and to tell you when the full game is ready.
First name (optional)To address you by name in those emails.
Whether you ticked "send me occasional news"So that we only send news to people who asked for it.
That you confirmed you are 13 or olderThe demo is for people aged 13 and over.
Where you signed up from ("web demo"), the game version and the timeTo know which version of the demo you saw and when.

Like every website, our hosting and sign-up services also receive the technical information your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address and browser type. We do not use it to identify you; it may appear in those services' security and error logs.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and parts of the demo people use, so that we can improve the game. It records things like the pages you view, how long you stay, the site that sent you, your rough location (country and city), and your browser and device type. Google Analytics does not store your IP address. We do not use it for advertising, and we have not turned on Google's advertising features.

If you are in the UK, the EU, the EEA or Switzerland, nothing from Google loads until you choose Allow analytics in the banner. Elsewhere analytics is on by default, unless your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, which we treat as a no. Wherever you are, you can change your mind at any time with (also at the bottom of every page).

re-analytics-consent (browser storage)This siteRemembers your analytics choiceUntil you clear your browser data

Google Analytics keeps the visit data for 2 months (its standard setting); reports we make from it contain only totals. Google processes this data for us under its data processing terms; see also how Google uses information from sites that use its services. To tell where you are, the page asks Cloudflare, which already serves the site, for your country; that answer stays in your browser.

What stays on your device

The game saves your settings (theme, text size, sound), the fact that you have signed up, and any lives you save in your browser's own storage. This never leaves your device and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser's site data for randomexistence.com removes it.

How we use your information

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Our legal basis (for visitors in the UK, the EU and similar places): your consent for news emails and for analytics, and our legitimate interest in letting you into the demo and telling you about the launch you signed up for.

Who handles it for us

Your sign-up is stored in the United States, and Google may process analytics data in the United States and elsewhere. If you live elsewhere, your information is transferred to the US to provide the demo and the emails you asked for. Cloudflare serves the website from data centres around the world.

How long we keep it

We keep your sign-up until 12 months after the full game launches, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. If you unsubscribe from news, we stop sending it straight away.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or to stop emailing you, by writing to [email protected]. We will reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example in the UK, the EU or California) you may have further rights, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

The demo is for people aged 13 and over, and the sign-up asks you to confirm your age. If you believe a child under 13 has signed up, tell us and we will delete their information.

Links to other sites

The game's Knowledge pages link to the sources behind its facts (for example the World Bank and the UN). Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Changes

If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell people who signed up before any change that affects them.
